Amiodorone Flashcards
How does Amiodorone slow the sinus rate and the refractory period of the AV node?
By blocking the K+(Potassium) channels in phase 3 of AP thereby increasing the QT interval
How does Amiodorone decrease peripheral vascular resistance?
By inhibiting alpha & beta adrenoreceptors resulting in relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and vasodialation.
What is the CA use of Amiodorone?
CA VF & pulseless VT refractory to shocks &adrenaline
What is the Dysrythmia uses of Amiodorone?
Tachycardia > 16yrs LOC A-V and symptomatic with wide QRS>0.12s OR
LOC P-U HR >160 post cardioversion
What are the adverse effects of Amiodorone?
Hypotension decreasedvascular tone from blocked alpha &beta adrenoreceptors
Bradycardia slow SR & ^ refractory period, prolonged QT interval
Dysrythmia, prolonged QT=Toursade de Pointes
What is the preperation of Amiodorone?
150mg in 3ml or (50mg:1ml)
What is the dose of Amiodorone in CA, VF VT patients >16
> 16 300mg IV bolus repeat once 150mg max 450mg
What is the dose of Amiodorone in CA, VF VT patients <16
5mg/kg (0.1ml/kg) IV/IO repeat 10mg/kg(0.2ml/kg)
What is the dose of Amiodorone in Tachycardias > 16yrs
50mg (1ml) repeat 3mins, max 6 doses (300mg)
