Freire philosophy:
Combination of Plato, Marxism, and de-coloniser thinkers, with an anti ethno-centric pedagogy surpassing status-quo education centering values around the present.
Freire oppressor-oppressed distinction:
Education allow oppressed to regain sense of humanity, overcome their condition, with oppressed playing roles in their liberation
Freire - why does education make sense?
People remake tehmselves by taking responsibility for themselves as those capable of knowing.
Friers ‘banking model’ of education:
Students are ‘empty accounts’ to be filled by teachers, transforming students into recieving objects and attempting to control thinking and action, inhibiting creative power and people to ‘adjust’ to the world.
Consequence of ‘Unequal Social Relations’:
Instills oppressed with negative, passive, and suppressed self-image.
Advaita Vedanta
Focus on idea that individual self and ultimate relaity are one and the same.
non-duality
Emphasise interconnectedness of all things and absence of fundamental separation in existence.
Conscientization
A process helping people become aware of their oppression and values that support social justice, by constructing/using their own knowledge of reality.
Ecopedagogy
Recognition of interconnectedness of all things on earth, helping students understand life and the world
