A

The Loewenstein family, which dates back to the year 1000, has been living in the region of Franken since 1590. In 1597 they bought vineyards and a wine cellar and started their wine business, which continues until the present time. In 2010 they moved the winery and cellar to the Loewenstein Palace in Kleinheubach, were they built a modern winery and installed the cellar in the baroque stables.

In Franconia they own amongst other vineyards the famous vineyard “Kallmuth”. These 12 hectares have been planted with vines for over 1000 years, have terraces from the 16th century and consist of red sandstone, covered by shell limestone. The climatic conditions resemble the mediteranian regions and next to the vines grow flowers and herbs in a nature protected area, which otherwise grow in the mediteranian landscape.

The white wine from the “Kallmuth” mountain with its very unique taste of herbs and soil has a long story of fame – the French Duke of Grammon bought it 1657 for the French King Louis XIV and in 1862 it was named in a book in New York as “the best kind of this wine” and sold 1863 to America. In Franconia the family has 22 ha of vineyards. In 1871 the great‐grandmother of the present Prince of Loewenstein bought vineyards in Hallgarten on the Rhine.

The cellarmaster is Bastian Hamdorf. He studied Oenology and winemaking at the University of Geisenheim on the Rhine and worked in various winery´s, lately the FX Pichler group in Austria, before joining the Loewenstein company. He spends a lot of time in the vineyards, as it´s there were the quality is made and supervises the work to improve the quality. Once the grapes arrive at the cellar, no chemicals or other additions are made. Our vison is a naturelife‐philosophy, which was created by the CEO of the family company, Dr. Stephanie Princess of Loewenstein. She is a medical doctor, a pediatrician, the wife of the oldest son and owner of the family company.

The head of the Loewenstein family, Prince Alois Konstantin, acts as an advisor to the company. From 1974‐1984 he was Chairman of the board of Societe Viticolo Europeenne in Bordeaux.
