Fracture Bracing Flashcards
Tibial Fracture Brace
Overlapping anterior/posterior shells.
Ease of adjustment for volumetric changes.
Tibial-Femoral Fracture Brace
Effective for non-operative or post-operative treatment of proximal tibial fracture following internal fixation of these fractures or removal of an ex-fix.
Humeral Fracture Brace
Durable, light weight, adjustable & easy to remove.
Allows for movement of muscles surrounding fracture site.
Hook/loop closure helps maintain soft-tissue compression.
Ulnar Fracture Brace
Functional brace for isolated ulnar fracture.
Allows for more comfortable elbow motion, wrist flexion/extension.
When to wear
Usually applied 2 weeks after traditional cast.
Purpose of fracture bracing
Helpful for controlling angular deformities.
Idea that function/motion at fracture site are constructive to osteogenesis to accelerate fracture healing, decrease joint stiffness due to the immobilization of a traditional cast.
