Four Fundamentals (Part 1) Flashcards
What are the four fundamentals of flight?
Turns, Straight and level, Climbs, and Descents
What factors control one of the four maneuvers?
Power, pitch, and bank
What is an airplanes attitude?
The position of the airplane relative to the horizon.
How do you verify the visual horizon or the attitude indicator?
Using the instruments (airspeed indicator, altimeter, turn coordinator, and heading indicator)
What is a shallow bank turn? What is a medium bank turn? Steep turn?
(1) 20 degrees or less. (2) Between 20 and 45 degrees (3) Greater than 45
How is a turn done (3 steps)?
(1) Turn the yoke in direction of turn (2) Push rudder in direction of turn to counter anti-yaw (3) Pull back to maintain level flight
What should be done before a turn?
Scan the surroundings to avoid maneuvering too close to other aircraft
What should happen once a bank reaches 30 degrees?
Release aileron and rudder pressure, or neutralize the controls
What are the characteristics of a shallow turn?
The airplane will want to return to level
What are the characteristics of a steep turn?
The airplane will want to increase the bank
What should be done prior to reaching the desired heading on a turn?
The rollout should begin prior to that, 10 degrees for shallow banked turns, 15 degrees for medium turns, and 25 for steep
