formulating a research question Flashcards

1
Q

Planning and preparation- the fundamental 4

A

1.what we know e.g what has been published, has the issue already been investigated
2.what is unknown e.g is this new topic, is there a gap in the literature
3.what should we know e.g what is the specific gap that the study is going to address
4.why should we know it e.g. addressing the gap important for patient for families for clinicians for the broader health system

Q

4 steps in research

A

1.formulating the topic:identify the problem to be studied and guides to methodology
2.is it ethical
3.conduct literature review: systematic process -researcher reviews the relevant findings of previous studies on the topics +identify gap in knowledge
4.clarify the purpose :ask why of the study is basic or research applied
