What is a prime minister?
Head Executive in a parliamentary system. Elected by parliament/legislature.
What is a system of government?
How the power is distributed between various levels of government.
Parliamentary Government
Law making (legislative branch) is the main body. Democratically elected, and the prime minister is the leader.
What is a unitary government?
The central government has all of the power.
Federal Government?
The power is shared between the central and sub-governments.
Confederal government?
The states/ lower governments have all of the power. (US under AOC)
What system of government does the US have?
Federal System of Government
What is the central government?
They deal with issues at the national level. The entire nation. (Is in DC)
Lower governments?
State or regional governments
Representative Democracy?
Also called republic. The citizens vote for representatives to represent them in government. (This is what the US does)
Socialism?
The money, production and and items of a country should be distributed evenly and shared.
Communism?
The government owns all property (no private property) not equally distributed, oppressive government.
Absolute Monarchy?
The monarch (king or queen) holds all of the power.
Constitutional Monarchy?
The monarch shares all of their power with a constitution and other government figures. Is really there for ceremonial reasons.
Oligarchy?
A group of people hold the power. Usually key figures in the community who are rich. (Often a political party)
