What is the presidents cabinet?
Group of people who give advice to the president and help him carry out laws-appointed by the president.
What is the role of the executive branch?
Make sure all laws made by Congress are followed.
What are the requirements to run for president?
35 years old, live in the US for 14 years, and a natural born citizen.
What is another power of the president?
Head of the military.
What positions does the president have to appoint?
Ambassadors, public officials, cabinet members, federal judges and other officials.
How are the positions the president appoints confirmed?
2/3 vote of the Senate.
What is an executive order?
The president can make a law without Congresses approval, but can be removed by any president.
What is the presidents power to pardon?
The president can remove prisoners from jail.
What does this position mean?
Commander in Chief
President is in charge of the military.
What does this position mean?
Chief Diplomat
Important ambassadors to other countries.
What does this position mean?
Chief Legislature
Can suggest bills to Congress.
What does this position mean?
Chief Executive
Is boss of the Executive branch.
What does this position mean?
Economic Leader
Introduces programs to help the country economically.

The face of the US- what other countries look to see. First impression of the US.

Who appoints judges and how are they confirmed?
President, 2/3 senate confirms.
Who is the leader of the Supreme court?
Chief Justice
What is a Writ of Certiorari?
A request for a court case to be heard by a higher court.
What is judicial review?
The judges of the Supreme Court judge if a law or act is in line with the constitution or not.
What is summary judgment?
When a case is told the answer before trial because the evidence leans toward one side and is obvious.
What is a court order?
When a judge orders someone to do (or not do) something.
What happens when a court has a higher jurisdiction than another?
They have the authority legally to try something.
What is the Separation of Powers?
Limitation of a tyrannical government by separating the power between three branches.
What is the subject of checks and balances?
The act when one branch limits each other’s powers so one can not become more powerful.
What are 7 checks and balances?
- President can veto an act of Congress
- Congress can override a veto by a 2/3 vote
- Supreme court can throw out a law
- President can appoint Supreme Court judges
- Senate confirms all appointments
- Congress creates lower courts
- Congress can impeach judges and the President.
