What is an example of cruel and unusual punishment?
Punishment for a crime you committed must be fair and reasonable.
What is eminent domain?
The government is able to take your home for government projects if they are payed correctly.
If you are pleading the fifth, what does that mean?
They have the right to stay silent to make sure they do not testify against themselves.
What does the right to bead arms mean?
You can own a weapon.
What does it mean to have right to legal counsel?
You can have a counselor to represent you and defend you in court.
What does it mean to be protected from unreasonable searches and seizures?
The police can not search you without a warrant or probable cause.
What is trial by jury?
Citizen can have a trial with a jury of their peers to try their case.
What are unenumerated rights?
We have rights that are implied but not written in the Constitution.
What is due process?
The fair treatment that is equal to all- the same and makes sure that the law is being carried out correctly.
What is double jeopardy?
You can not be tried twice for the same crime.
What does the 10th amendment do?
Gives the states their powers that they can and can’t do.
How does the 14th amendment define citizenship?
Anyone born or naturalized in the US is a citizen.
What does equal protection under the law mean?
Everyone must be treated fairly.
How did the 14th amendment change due process laws and affect states rights?
States were forced to have the same equal protection of everyone that is a US citizen.
