Force Flashcards
Pressure is
How much force is put on an area
Force is
Is something that causes an object to move
Pressure is measured in
N/cm*2
Force is measured in
Neutons
Area is measured in
Centimetres
Atmospheric pressure is
Pressure due to weight of air pressing down on the earth. The higher u go above sea level, the less atmospheric pressure there is
What can you measure atmospheric pressure with?
A barometer
What measures the height above sea level?
Altimeter
High pressure (weather)
Fine weather
No clouds
Summers are nice
Winters have bright days
Low pressure (weather)
Windy
Cloudy
Unsettled - lots of rain
Velocity
Speed in a particular direction
Friction
Is a force which prevents easy movement between 2 objects in contact
Disadvantages of friction
- slows things down
- wastes energy
- a lot of unwanted heat and sound is produced
Advantages of friction
Used to stop/slow things down
Allows us to walk and not slip
How to reduce friction
Lubricate with oil or gas
Hooks law
The extension of the Spring is directly proportional to the force that is stretching it
Weight
Is a force due to gravity.
- mass (kg) x 10
- grass to kg = divided by 1000
