Acids And Bases Flashcards
Acids
Acids tend to have a very sour, sharp taste. Acids are corrosive e.g. Lemons
Bases
Bases are opposite to acids. We uses bases in our every day lives. For example: toothpaste + bleach
Indicators
Are substances which change colour depending if they are an acid or a base. For example: litmus paper (will go blue to red for acids and red to blue for bases)
PH scale
A scale that goes from 1-14
It tells us how strong or weak an acid or a base is
Universal indicator
Is a mixture of indicators. It can change to a variety of different colours depending on the PH.
Neutralisation
Turing an acid to a base, or a base to an acid using salt or water
Tirations
allow you to find out exactly how much acid is needed to neutralise a base.
When an acid and metal reacts what happens?
Salt and hydrogen forms
What happens when hydrogen gas burn
You hear a popping noise
Litmis paper
And acid turns blue litmis paper red and red litmis paper blue
What is the word equation (in words)
Hydrochloric acid + sodium hydroxide -> sodium chloride + water
Word equation (in letters)
HCL + NaOH -> NaCl + H2o
