what method is used to test for the presence of sugars
get 5cm3 of the food sample and place in test tube.
prepare a water bath at 75degrees.
add 10 drops of benedict solution using pippette to the test tube.
place the test tube in water bath and leave for 5 mins.
if the food sample contains a reduciing sugar the solution will change colour to green, yellow or red.
what method is used to test for the presence of starch
get 5cm3 of the food sample and olace in test tube.
add a few drops of iodine solution to test tube and gently swirl it around.
if it contains startch then the colour will change from brown to black or blue.
what method is used to test for the presence of proteins
get 2cm3 of the food sample and place in a test tube.
add 2cm3 of the biuret solution to testtube and shake.
if protein is present the colour will chnage from blue to pink or purple.
