Flight Instruments, Displays Flashcards
Where is groundspeed displayed?
- Top left corner of the ADI
- On the FMS, POS REF page
Where is true airspeed displayed?
- TAS/SAT indicator
- FMS, Progress page 2
If the MCP VOR/DME switch is in the MAN mode, what will cause the switch to return to AUTO?
Moving the EFIS control panel HSI mode selector from MAP to all positions except PLAN, then returning to MAP.
What do stations displayed in green on the HSI map display represent?
Stations that are either being auto tuned or have been manually tuned using the VOR/DME control panel.
How do you display DME from a localizer?
Place EFIS control panel in APP or ILS full/expanded mode and read the LOC DME on the RDMI - represented by the letter L, or reference ILS DME in HSI.
Where is the only place an ILS frequency can be manually tuned?
ILS control panel
What is the VNAV vertical deviation scale range?
+/- 400ft
What is the source for attitude information on the standby ADI?
Self contained.
What does the Pitch Limit Indicator do?
Indicates pitch limit (stick shaker activation point for the existing flight conditions).
How are inoperative flight instruments marked?
Flags
What are the ADI indications displayed during excessive glide slope and localizer deviation?
Indication turns amber and flashes
Where on the ADI are references for airspeed? (Fast/slow indicator)
Left side of the ADI
Be able to identify aircraft heading looking at various HSI displays.
Look for the heading pointer. (Remember “track up” vs North Up)
Where are wind direction and speed displayed?
Bottom left corner of HSI (map display)
What does the altitude range “green” arc indicate during a climb or descent?
Predicts where the aircraft will reach MCP selected altitude and considers ground speed and vertical speed when doing so.
How do you identify the active waypoint on the MAP and on the FMS CDU?
Magenta on the map.
Line L1 on the CDU active legs page.
Line L1 on progress page 1.
How are radio altimeter minimums set, and where are they displayed?
- Set using the rotary switch on the EFIS HSI control panel
- Displayed on the EFIS HSI control panel
- Displayed on the top right corner of the ADI
How are HSI display modes selected?
Use the EFIS HSI control panel.
What is the orientation of the HSI in the PLAN mode?
True North up.
On the EFIS control panel, what does the Terrain (TERR) Display Switch do?
- Displays terrain data in VOR, APP, MAP & CTR MAP modes
- Arms terrain data in CTR VOR, CTR APP, & PLN modes
- Deselects the wx radar display regardless of the mode selector position
- Second push deselects terrain display
On the EFIS control panel, what does the Weather Radar Switch do?
Displays weather radar information
On the EFIS control panel, what does the NAVAID Display Switch do?
- Displays only high altitude VHF navigational aids when HSI range is 80nm or greater.
- Displays all VHF navigational aids when HSI range is 40nm or less.
On the EFIS control panel, what does the Airport (ARPT) Display Switch do?
Displays all FMS database airports in the display range.
On the EFIS control panel, what does the Route Data (RTE DATA) Display Switch do?
Displays ETA and any altitude constraint for each waypoint in the desired flight path.
On the EFIS control panel, what does the Waypoint (WPT) Display Switch do?
- Displays all waypoints when HSI range is 40nm or less.
- Those waypoints associated with NDB’s are displayed at any selected range as long as the NDB’s are within 80nm of the airplane.
On the instrument source select panel, what does the FLT DIR switch do?
Selects an alternate flight control computer used as the source of commands for the flight director display.
On the instrument source select panel, what does the NAV selector do?
Selects an alt FMC information source used by EFIS symbol generators and the FCC’s. The CDU position is used for operation of the Alternate Navigation System.
On the instrument source select panel, what does the FMC switch do? (when installed)
Selects and alternate source of FMC information used by the EFIS symbol generators and FCC’s
On the instrument source select panel, what does the EFI (electronic flight instruments) switch do?
Selects an alternate EFIS symbol generator, ILS receiver, and radio altimeter used as the sources of information for the respective ADI and HSI displays.
On the instrument source select panel, what does the IRS switch do?
Selects an alternate IRS information source for the symbol generators, the VSI, and the RDMI.
What information is provided by the IRS? (inertial reference system)
Attitude, heading, and vertical speed.
On the instrument source select panel, what does the AIR DATA switch do?
Selects an alternate air data computer information source for the respective mach/airspeed indicator, primary altimeter, and vertical speed indicator.
