Flight Instruments Flashcards
What does the Integrated Standby Flight Display (ISFD) show in APP mode?
Localizer and glideslope information
If the outboard Display Unit (DU) fails, where does the PFD display?
Inboard DU on the respective side
Which display unit provides ILS info, approach minimums, and TCAS commands?
Primary Flight Display (PFD)
What does the speed bug indicate? (magenta hollow arrow)
Manually selected speed in IAS/MACH window or the FMC computed speed (if IAS/MACH window blank)
What indicates the maximum speed (Vmax)?
Dashed red line on top of speed scale
What indicates the minimum maneuvering speed (Vmvr) for full maneuvering capability?
Top of the amber bar
Provides 1.3g maneuverability to the stick shaker below 20,000ft and to 1.3g low-speed buffet above 20,000ft
What indicates the minimum safe operating speed (Vmin)?
Dashed red line on bottom of speed scale
What indicates the maximum maneuvering speed?
Bottom of the amber bar
What is the mach/airspeed overspeed aural warning? How to silence?
A clacker is the aural overspeed warning
Silenced by reducing airspeed below Vmo/Mmo
What does the pitch limit indicator (PLI) indicate?
The PLI indicates the pitch limit for stick shaker activation (calc. by SMYD)
[Appears when flaps are extended or airspeed approaches stick shaker activation]
On the altitude tape, what does the amber crosshatched area represent on approach at the destination?
FMC landing altitude at destination runway or airport, or
Landing altitude for departure runway or airport until 400nm from departure or 1/2 the distance to destination whichever is first
With minimums reference indicator on EFIS panel set to BARO, what does the triangular pointer and line (green) on the altitude display represent?
Barometic approach minimums line
When does the radio altitude appear on the attitude indicator?
At the bottom center of the PFD
Where is the current heading indicated?
White Heading Pointer at the top of the compass rose
What does the ALTITUDE DISAGREE alert appear?
When the altitude indications disagree by more than 200ft for more than 5 seconds
What does the DISPLAYS CONTROL PANEL (amber) indicate?
Indicates a failed EFIS control panel on the affected side.
What does the INSTR SWITCH (amber) indicate?
Indicates both the CA and FO displays are using the same source of IRU data.
What does the CDS MAINT (white) indicate?
A dispatchable CDS fault has occurred.
[Displayed on ground only, prior to second engine start]
What does the CDS MAINT (amber) indicate?
A NON-dispatchable CDS fault has occurred.
[Displayed on ground only, prior to second engine start]

A DEU has failed
How do you step through the active route on the ND in PLN mode?
MCDU Legs Page
What does EFIS MODE/NAV FREQ DISAGREE (amber) indicate?

VOR is selected with an ILS frequency tuned
What information is entered using the runway key on the HGS control panel?
Runway length and touchdown elevation
What does RO CTN (amber) on the HGS digital annunciator panel indicate?
Loss of rollout guidance below 500ft AGL
