Flight Inst, Nav & Autopilot Flashcards
If the captain’s PFD fails, what would be the appropriate course of action?
EFIS controller:
If PFD 1 failed:
MFD 1…………………………………………Select PFD
PFD1 ………………………………………………OFF
E&A 4.1
What does a NAV source in amber on a PFD mean?
NAV source from opposite side selected SDM 10
What effect does the illumination of the BASIC light on an AHRU have on the affected attitude indicator?
Operation in the Basic mode will cause decreased attitude accuracy, and the EADI will behave like a conventional mechanical gimbaled gyro. SDM 10-34
Acceleration and deceleration errors will be present
What is the AHRS limitation for takeoff?
- Takeoff in BASIC mode is prohibited.
- Takeoff in DG mode is prohibited.
FSM 1.8.2
What does the WxA RADAR pushbutton do?
Selects the weather alert mode of operation. In this mode any magenta colored returns will flash on and off to alert the pilot of the intensity of the return.
SDM 15-11
What is the best defense against windshear?
Avoidance
The best defense against windshear is to avoid it altogether. This may only involve delaying departure or approach for 10 to 20 minutes.
FOM12.1.9
On an approach with suspected windshear, by what altitude must the approach be stabilized?
Stabilize the approach by 1,000 feet AGL.
FOM12.1.12
When must the autopilot be disengaged on an approach?
Autopilot shall be disengaged at or above 1,000 feet AFE for:
- HGS approaches flown in AIII mode
- Approaches flown with an inoperative engine
- Approaches flown with Flap 0°
• For coupled approaches, the autopilot shall be disengaged at or above 200 feet AFE.
FSM 1.8.4
What is the minimum altitude for autopilot engagement after takeoff or goaround?
Autopilot shall be disengaged at or above 1,000 feet AFE for:
- HGS approaches flown in AIII mode
- Approaches flown with an inoperative engine
- Approaches flown with Flap 0°
• For coupled approaches, the autopilot shall be disengaged at or above 200 feet AFE.
FSM 1.8.4
When must the autopilot be disengaged on a 0º flap landing?
Autopilot shall be disengaged at or above 1,000 feet AFE
- Approaches flown with Flap 0°
FSM 1.8.4
Can the autopilot be used in severe turbulence?
No
Can you engage the autopilot in severe icing?
No
The autopilot needs to be off by what point on an AIII approach?
1000’ AFE
Can the AP be engaged with the YD inoperative?
If a failure inhibits the Yaw Damper from engaging, the Autopilot also is inhibited. If a failure causes the Yaw Damper to disengage, the Autopilot will also disengage.
SDM 3-18
What is Level One Automation?
Level One: Hand-flying (Raw Data)
FOM 2.3.2
