Flight Envelope Flashcards
Triangle display on PFD
A tail strike pitch limit appears on the PFD at takeoff (only -900) and landing.
The rotation law is a pitch rate demand control law, providing tail strike protection.
The flight crew can override the tail strike protection.
DURING TAKEOFF (only-900)
The indication moves from the pitch limit value with the main landing gear compressed, to the pitch limit value with the main landing gear extended.
The indication no longer appears 3 s after liftoff.
DURING LANDING
Appears when the aircraft is below 400 ft RA height, at a fixed value corresponding to the pitch limit with the main landing gear compressed.
The indication no longer appears:
- When the ground speed is less than 50 kt, or
- 4 s after a go-around is initiated
Normal Law during normal accelaration when will protections happen?
For a normal acceleration, the high speed protection activates when the speed is between VMO/MMO (340 kt/M 0.89) and VMO + 10 kt / MMO + 0.02
In alpha protection, you hold back stick, what happens?
When the angle of attack protection is active:
The pitch control law controls the angle of attack (the angle of attack is proportional to the sidestick deflection) between:
α-max (Full back stick)
α-prot (Sidestick at neutral)
Normal Law during normal accelaration when will protections happen?
For a normal acceleration, the high speed protection activates when the speed is between VMO/MMO (340 kt/M 0.89) and VMO + 10 kt / MMO + 0.02.
What is the preferred menthod for disconnecting the autopilot?
The normal way to disconnect the AP is to press the sidestick pb two times.
When the flight crew presses the sidestick pb for the first time, the following warnings are triggered, and will continue, until the flight crew presses the sidestick pb a second time:
Autothrust Range when OEI
The A/THR activates, if the A/THR is armed, and the flight crew sets the thrust levers on the active range:
One engine is out: One thrust levers is above the idle detent, and at or below FLX-MCT detent.
(Both engines are operative: Both thrust levers are above idle, and at or below the CL detent.)
Which of the following is a FAIL OPERATIONAL?
LAND3 D
How is Land Operational Status shown on PFD
The LAND3 DUAL approach and landing capability is fail-operational automatic landing system

control law.
WITHIN THE NORMAL FLIGHT ENVELOPE:
The aircraft is stable and maneuverable
Efforts are balanced in pitch and roll
Aircraft responses are consistent on all axes regardless of the aircraft speed, configuration, and CG.
OUTSIDE OF THE NORMAL FLIGHT ENVELOPE:
Pilots are immediately warned by a….
strong positive stability
Simple, instinctive, and immediate procedure to get out of an emergency situation, allowing maximum aircraft performance with minimum risk to overstress, or overcontrol the aircraft.
The purpose of the flight control protections is to:
Give full authority to the flight crew, in order to enable them to obtain the best aircraft performance with an instinctive, immediate action on the related control
Minimize the risks of over-controlling, overstressing, or damaging the aircraft.
The implementation of such protections is a benefit for flight safety:
It reduces the flight crew’s stress in emergency situations
It enables the flight crew to react unambiguously to emergency situations
It does not require exceptional skills
It enables the flight crew to achieve a higher aircraft performance than on non-protected aircraft
The performance achieved is not affected by the flight crew’s stress, or fatigue, or skill
The performance is not restricted by a restrictive procedure
The training can concentrate on the flight crew’s awareness level, rather than on the maneuver itself.
The autothrust is hosted in a computer.
The link between the thrust levers and the engines is electrical.
This gives the same advantages as the flight controls management:
Less weight
Greater reliability.
When the autothrust is engaged, the Thrust Lever Position (TLP) determines the……
maximum authorized thrust that may be commanded by the autothrust
When the flight crew uses manual thrust, the TLP determines the current thrust (as on any aircraft not equipped with autothrust).
