Flight Controls Flashcards
What type of Flaps?
Double-slotted fowler flaps that move rearward and down
How many PCUs aileron
2 per side
Gust lock for Ailerons?
Flutter damper if pressure lost to PCU in flight.
On the ground the flutter damper, PCU, and trapped pressure
Which controls are fly by wire ?
Spoilerons electronically hydraulically actuated
What happens if an aileron PCU causes un-commanded roll with an aileron runaway?
Bungee breakout
Green PLT/CPLT ROLL light illuminates in front of the pilot that has control
What is the SECU
Spoiler Electronic Control Unit- use electronic inputs and information from airspeed to determine spoiler deflection
How many Rudder PCUs
3 PCUs only one must work for trim to work
Yaw damper 1 and 2
When do Flaps operate at 1/2 speed
Failure of single PDU or one FECU channel
PDU-Power Drive Unit
How are the left and right elevators connected
What mechanically moves them
- Each side is separate except for the connection CA left side, FO right side
- 2 elect motors and a jack screw
How many spoilers on each wing
4-spoileron, flight spoiler, out board and in board ground spoiler
When do Flaps operate at 1/2 speed
Failure of single PDU or one FECU channel
PDU-Power Drive Unit, you get a FLAP HALFSPEED status message
What causes Takeoff Config Warning
Flaps Flight spoilers Autopilot Parking brake Aileron trim Rudder trim Horizontal stabilizer trim Checked by the proximity sensing units
How many total PCUs?
6-elevator
3-rudder
2-each aileron
When does Half bank come on
Auto at 31,600 or when selected on
What happens if an elevator is jammed
Jams usually overpowered by the other 2 PCUs
How do the Flaps operate
2 power drive units (PDUs) that power the flex shaft, one motor fails flaps travel at half speed
Explain function of flutter dampers on elevator
Keeps the elevator from fluttering if a loss of hydraulic pressure at a PCU
Gust lock when on the ground
How is pitch control provided
Elevator assisted by a moveable horizontal stabilizer
What spoilers make up the Ground Lift Dump system
ALL Spoilerons Flight spoilers Inboard Ground Spoilers Outboard Ground Spoilers
When is GLD system armed for Takeoff
- GLD switch is in the armed position
- Either engine greater than 79% N1
- Wheel speed greater than 45kts
What conditions are necessary for deployment of GLD on landing
- L or R WOW
- Wheel speed greater than 16kts
- Radio Altimeter less than 5 ft
What hydraulic systems power which flight controls
- System 1: Rudder, Elevator, Left Aileron, Left Spoileron, Left Flight Spoiler, Outboard Ground Spoiler
- System 2: Rudder, Elevator, Right Aileron, Right Spoileron, Right Flight Spoiler, Inboard Ground spoiler
- System 3: Rudder, Elevator, Both Ailerons, Both Spoilerons
