Flexibility and Mobility Concepts Flashcards
What is flexibility?
the ROM of a joint or a series of joints
What is mobility?
means capable of moving
Benefits of flexibility training.
improved joint ROM
improved posture
improved blood flow and increased oxygen levels
reduced feelings of stiffness
reduced discomfort while exercising
increased ease and efficiency of movement
reduced stress levels
What is fascia?
all connective tissue that wraps around and between muscles, tendons, and ligaments
muscle + fascia =
myofascia
What is hypermobility?
too much flexibility
What is hypomobility?
not enough flexibility
What is elasticity?
the ability of a tissue to return to its resting length after stretching
What is plasticity?
the ability of a tissue to adapt to a new resting length
What is PROM?
Passive range of motion.
refers to assessing the ROM by the trainer while the client is relaxed
What is AROM?
Active Range of motion.
refers to assessing a client’s active demonstration of the movement with no assistance.
