Fires involving flammable liquids and liquefiable solids Flashcards
1
Q
What is Flammable Liquid?
A
For this section, any liquid that requires foam to extinguish
2
Q
What is Flashpoint?
A
Lowest Temperature at which a flame can propagate in the vapour above the liquid
3
Q
What is Firepoint?
A
Higher temperature than flashpoint, the temperature at which vapour continues to burn after being ignited
4
Q
What is Flashback?
A
Re-ignition of a flammable liquid caused by exposure of vapour to source of ignition
5
Q
What is a boil over?
A
hot oil sinks and if it then meets water then superheated steam is created. This steam explosion and send burning oil and vapour to a height 10 times greater than the tank diameter
