Compartment firefighting PN793 Flashcards
What are the 9 Hazards associated with Compartment firefighting?
Flashover Backdraft Explosive atmospheres Steam Uncontrolled ventilation High temperature Structural deterioration Exposed utilities Loss of comms
When entering a compartment what is the minimum the jet should be comprised of?
45mm and on 230lpm
A back up teams hose should be what of the original team?
one hose length longer
What is the purpose of a covering jet?
To minimise the hazards of flame and products of combustion
Why should covering jets never be aimed directly into openings?
They could potentially force flame and unburnt gases back into the compartment
Can a Hose reel or less be used?
Yes, but only where information confirms it is a small known fire.
Where hose lines have more than 3 lengths what should be done to mitigate frictional loss?
Minimum of 70mm hose should be laid out from the fire ground pump to the entrance.
Before external ventilation begins, what must be in place?
A covering jet
What should be BA teams consider before entering a compartment?
The survivability of casualties and whether firefighting from the door way is more viable.
