Q

Explain the fire tetrahedron.

A

research in the past 30 years has indicated the presence of a fourth element, chemical chain reaction, it allows the fire to both sustain itself and grow.

Q

Class charlie extinguishing agent?

A

Extinguished by non-conductive agents:

  • Energized. co2, halon, pkp and h20 fog 4feet minimum away
  • De-energized. treat as class A, B or D

Q

What is H20?

A

Water.

Not generally considered suitable for large aircraft fuel fires without additive foam agents or surfactants. Is effective agent for cooling aircraft fuselage, provide heat shield for personnel, cooling ordenance, batteries and class A fires.

Q

What is Halon 1211?

A

Bromochloridefluoromethane.

Primary use B and C fires. Colorless, faintly sweet smelling, electrically non-conductive gas that leaves no residue to clean up. it inhibits the chemical chain reaction.

17
Q

What is CO2

A

Carbon dioxide.

15 pound & 50 pound units.primarily used on B and C fires. Colorless, odorless and is 0ne and 0ne-half heavier than air. Displaces oxygen to below combustion support levels.

18
Q

What is PKP?

A

Potassium Bicarbonate, Purple-K-Powder.

Primarily used for B fires. The dry chemical extinguishes the flame by breaking the combustion chain. No cooling capabilities and not permanent extinguishing.
