13
Q

State the purpose of the emergency shore based recovery equipment.

A

Any one of the numerous emergencies that could arise you must arrest the aircraft and stop it in the shortest distance possible to minimize the chance of an accident that could cause injury to the pilot and crew or damage to the aircraft.

14
Q

Identify the safety hazard areas associated with Intakes.

A

May develop enough suction to pull an individual or hats, gloves, ect. The hazard is greatest during maximum power settings.

15
Q

Identify the safety hazard areas associated with Exhaust (engine and APU).

A

High temperature, velocity of the exhaust gases from the tailpipe, and sometimes excess fuel can accumulate in the tailpipe. When a jet engine starts long flames shoot out becuase of the excess fuel.

16
Q

Identify the safety hazard areas associated with Propellers.

A

Personnel should not approach or depart an aircraft with the propellers turning.

17
Q

Identify the safety hazard areas associated with Rotor blades.

A

Personnel should not approach or depart a helicopter while the rotors are being engaged or disengaged.

18
Q

Identify the safety hazard areas associated with Hot breaks.

A

Never face the side of the wheel, as an explosion of the wheel will follow the line of the axel. Always approach from fore or aft.

19
Q

What is the purpose of the Wind indicator?

A

Provides a method for indicating the wind direction and velocities to the pilots.

20
Q

What is the purpose of the airfield rotating beacon?

A

Below VFR weather conditions, the beacon is used to identify the airports location during darkness and daylight hours.

21
Q

What is the purpose of the tower visual communications?

A

Sequence of lights and switches that serve to reduce the number of voice contacts between the tower and radar controller.

22
Q

What is the purpose of the tacticle air navigation (TACAN) system?

A

Bearing determining system to determin aircraft position and distance from a tacan station.

23
Q

What is the purpose of the Instrument Landing Systems (ILS)?

A

Provides an approach path for exact alignment and descent of an aircraft on final approach to a runway.

24
Q

What is the purpose of the VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR)?

A

Is a radio facility that eliminates many difficulties. It is not affected by weather or other factors. Operate on frequencies between 108.0 and 117.95 MHz and are used for navigation and approach guidance.

25
Q

What is the purpose of the Global Positioning System (GPS)?

A

A space-based radio position and navigation system designed to provide highly accurate three-dimensional postion, velocity, and time data.
