FIRE PROTECTION Flashcards
Which areas of the aircraft have fire extinguishing capability?
Fire Extinguishing System allows for fire extinguishing in the following areas:
Engines
APU
Lower Cargo Compartments
Lavatory waste bins
What fire protection functions are available without battery power?
Fire detection is available for the MAIN WHEEL WELL (AC Transfer Bus 2) and Lower Cargo Compartments
(DC Bus 1 and 2).
No fire extinguishing.
Can you discharge the fire bottles using only battery power?
Yes, through the HOT Battery Bus.
How is the fire warning bell silenced?
By pushing the FIRE WARN lights or pushing BELL CUTOUT switch on the Fire Protection panel.
How is an engine fire extinguished?
Either or both engine fire extinguisher bottles can be discharged into either engine.
Which systems are affected by pulling an engine fire switch and how are they affected?
The systems affected by pulling an engine fire switch are a lighter gray color on the forward overhead panel (Fuel, Electrical, Hydraulic, Air).
How is a dual loop failure of an Engine Fire Detection System indicated?
A FAULT light will illuminate in the event of a dual loop failure.
How many fire extinguishing bottles are provided for the APU?
APU Fire Extinguishing System is comprised of a single halon bottle precharged with nitrogen
Does the APU have automatic fire extinguishing?
No, rotating the APU fire switch in either direction will electrically fire the squib, discharging the halon into the APU.
What happens when pulling the APU fire switch?
• provides a backup to the automatic shutdown feature
• closes the APU fuel shutoff valve
• closes the APU bleed air valve
• closes the APU air inlet door
• trips the APU generator control relay and breaker
• allows the APU fire switch to be rotated for discharge
• arms the APU fire extinguisher bottle squib
Where is the APU Fire Ground Control panel located?)
An APU Fire Ground Control panel is located in the right main wheel well.
What does placing the fire detection TEST switch to FAULT/INOP test?
The FAULT/INOP selection tests the system’s ability to detect a fault or inoperative equipment within itself.
What does placing the fire detection TEST switch to OVHT/FIRE test?
Tests the system’s ability to detect an overheat or fire condition.
What is indicated by the illumination of the DETECTOR FAULT light on the CARGO FIRE panel?
The illumination of DETECTOR FAULT light indicates one or more detectors in the Lower Cargo Compartment Fire Detection System has failed.
What fire protection and extinguishing equipment is available in the lower cargo compartments?
The forward and aft Lower Cargo Compartments each have smoke detectors in a dual-loop configuration.
The Cargo Compartment Fire Suppression System provides fire suppression to the forward and aft Cargo Compartments using a shared system of fire suppressing chemical agent.
Two halon fire suppression bottles are installed—a High-Rate Discharge (HRD) bottle and Low-Rate Discharge (LRD) bottle.
