The nail becomes soft, then looks curved when viewed from the side, the ends of the fingers may also enlarge
What is spooning on the fingernails?
An indent shape in the nail
What is a splinter haemorrhage on the fingernails?
Splinter-like lines of blood on the skin beneath the nail
What is it called when the ends of the fingers get larger?
Drumstick fingers
What is the curve of the nail caused by clubbing called?
Scarmouths sign
What is a cause of clubbing of the fingernails?
Oxygen deficiency caused by lung or heart disease
What is COPD?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (obstructed airways in the lungs)
What is a cause of spooning of the fingernails?
iron deficiency or malnutrition symptoms
What is a cause of splinter haemorrhage of the fingernails?
A blood vessel is damaged and the blood becomes visible under the nail
What are Osler nodes?
Red lesions on the hand and feet
What causes Osler nodes?
Inflammation of the inner lining of the heart chambers called the endocarditis
