Causes of chest pain - Cardiovascular 1 Flashcards
What blood pressure is stage 1 hypertension?
140/90 mmHg to 160/100
What blood pressure is stage 2 hypertension?
160/100 to 180/120
What blood pressure is stage 3 hypertension?
over 180/120
What drugs should be given for an adult with type 2 diabetes and hypertension?
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or angiotensin 2 receptor blocker
then calcium-channel blocker or thiazide like diuretic
What drugs should be given to an adult under 55 with hypertension?
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor or angiotensin 2 receptor blocker
then calcium-channel blocker or thiazide like diuretic
What drugs should be given to a black African adult with hypertension?
Calcium channel blocker
then ACE inhibitor, angiotensin 2 receptor blocker or thiazide-like diuretic
What drugs should be given to an adult over 55 with hypertension?
Calcium channel blocker
then ACE inhibitor, angiotensin 2 receptor blocker or thiazide-like diuretic
What is metolazone?
a thiazide diuretic that reduces sodium reabsorption in the kidney
What is losartan potassium?
angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). relaxes vascular smooth muscle
What is ramiprill?
angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE inhibitor).
Prevents angiotensin I converting to angiotensin II
What is amlodipine?
Calcium channel blocker. Blocks calcium entering smooth muscle cells
What is furosemide?
Loop diuretic that stops reabsorption of NA and CL in the loop of Henle
What is an aneurysm?
Widening (dilation) of a blood vessel
What is primary hypertension?
Unknown cause
What is secondary hypertension?
An underlying cause within the body
What are the four groups of secondary hypertension?
Renal
Endocrine
Vascular
Other
What is polycystic kidney disease?
Cysts that form on the kidney and deteriorate function
What is glomerulonephritis?
inflammation of the glomeruli
Name 2 renal conditions that cause hypertension?
glomerulonephritis
polycystic kidney disease
What is Cushing’s disease?
too much cortisol in your body
What is hyperaldosteronism?
an endocrine disorder where your adrenal gland/s create too much aldosterone. This causes your body to lose potassium and retain too much sodium
What is pheochromocytoma?
a tumour of the adrenal medulla, causing irregular secretion of epinephrine and norepinephrine
What 3 endocrine conditions cause hypertension?
- Cushing’s disease
- hyperaldosteronism
- pheochromocytoma
What is coarctation of aorta?
A narrowing in the aorta
