Finding the Percentage of Oxygen in Air Using the Rusting of Iron (Atmosphere) Flashcards
1
Q
What apparatus do we need?
A
-Gas syringe
-Connecting tube
-Conical flask
-Wet iron fillings.
2
Q
How can we work out the volume of air present in the apparatus?
A
By filling up the conical flask and connecting tube with water and transferring to a measuring cylinder.
3
Q
Explain how you can find the percentage of oxygen in air using the rusting of iron:
A
1) Set up apparatus
2) Put wet iron fillings into the conical flask
3) Record the initial reading of the gas syringe
4) Leave the apparatus in place for about a week, until the reading on the gas syringe stops changing
5) Record the final reading on the gas syringe.
