What are the long term affects of shift work
higher rates of burnout, emotional exhaustion, stress, anxiety, depression and other psychological distress

what is precarious employment
paid work characterized by limited social benefits and statutory entitlements, job insecurity, and low wages and associated with high risk of ill health
what are the health effects of precarious employment
worse mental health, stress related illness, depression and anxiety - pw experience economic pressures, this may lead to them accepted more dangerous work, contingent nature of work does not enforce workplace safety and effectiveness of government regulations is reduced because enforcement is difficult
Why do gender and race matter when considering OHS in the workplace
- ascribed characteristics of workers themselves, women more risk adverse, tend to see out less dangerous occupations, racialized workers are said to be less risk averse due to lower educations levels and lower income levels 2. workers “choose” their paths free of social and economic constraints - men are more likely to work in more physically demanding jobs, women face additional chemical hazard risks, racialized workers more vulnerable to workplace harassment. OSH experience differs because the social meaning attributed to specific gender or ethnicity alters a worker’s relationship to work, employers, customers and co-workers
