A
- Tools that help an individual overcome limitations related to a disability by either enhancing the skills the individual has or by compensating for absent or nonfunctional skills.
- Any thing that helps someone do something they could not do without it.

- AAC=AT for communication purposes
- Purpose: to facilitate individuals’ participation and engagement in meaningful events in their daily lives

A
- Dedicated Device: Individual devices that are customized to function only as communication aids.
- Integrated Systems: Standard computers that have been adapted to serve the function of communication devices with specialized software and hardware components

- Symbol: Method of representing an idea (written word, sign, picture, vocalization)
- Aid: A device used to transmit or receive messages (SGD, hearing aid, telegraph)
- Straegy: The way symbols can be conveyed most effectively & efficiently (typing first letter of word, eyegaze board)
- Technique: A way in which messages can be transmitted (talking, typing, scanning, gestures, selecting)

Low-Tech: options are usually easy to use, have low cost, and typically do not require power sources
