- Know your attitudes about culture and your personal world view
- Research culture and language in question
- Decide if your skills are adequate for the task or if you need additional help

- Asess in a wide variety of ways
- Use a variety of standardized/nonstandardized tests
- Assess client in all his/her languages/dialects
- Recognize cultural modes of communication behavior that affect assessment

- Carefully review testing tools for appropriateness and modify if necessary
- Complete Case History in person
- Check normative sample of tests chosen for assessment
- Observe instances of code switching/lang. interfence
- Report all modifications of testing procedures
- Report norms only if valid for population and test administration
- Use a variety of elicitation prodedures to learn as much as possible
- Report must detail how tests were modified and underlying motivation of changes

A
- Having a translator/family member assist with assessment or intervention is a great option
- Any translator must be trained prior to assisting to avoid bias

- Complete nonverbal assessments
- Conduct family interviews given help from a translator

- Find least biased assessment tools
- Ask for help if necessary
