Go To Related Record
- What does GTRR do?
It is a BUTTON COMMAND that goes to a RELATED RECORD. Say you have an INVOICE with a CUSTOMER’S NAME linked to it. Make the CUSTOMER’S NAME in the INVOICE a button with GTRR and it will take you to the CUSTOMER in the CUSTOMER’S LAYOUT.
- GTRR can ALSO find all the RELATED RECORDS and then SORT THEM if:
the relationship you’re using has a SORT SPECIFIED.
- What are all the uses of GTRR?
a. Go to a RELATED RECORD
b. Find all the RELATED RECORDS and SORT THEM (if the RELATIONSHIP has a SORT SPECIFIED)
c. It can CREATE A NEW WINDOW d. Lets you set an OPTION that includes the use of a FOUND SET.
- How do you turn a Customer’s Name into a GTRR BUTTON?
Select CUSTOMER'S NAME in the layout, choose FORMAT--> BUTTON SETUP, choose the GO TO RELATED RECORD script command.
- What happens when you choose the GO TO RELATED RECORD script command?
The GO TO RELATED RECORDS options Dialog box pops up.
- What are the OPTIONS in the GTRR Options dialog box?
GET RELATED RECORDS FROM
SHOW RECORD USING LAYOUT
SHOW IN NEW WINDOW
SHOW ONLY RELATED RECORDS.
- From the GET RELATED RECORD FROM pop up menu, choose the CUSTOMER’S table. When you pick a TABLE OCCURRENCE, you determine which table the button goes to. NOTICE THAT FILEMAKER SHOWS YOU ONLY:
the layouts that USE THE TABLE OCCURRENCE YOU JUST SELECTED.
- From the SHOW RECORD USING LAYOUT pop up menu, choose CUSTOMERS. If you’re going to a RELATED RECORD, it is usually from a RELATED TABLE OCCURRENCE:
your CURRENT LAYOUT CAN’T SHOW YOU RELATED DATA, because it DOES NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED FIELDS. So you tell the button which layout to use.
