- p 347. PORTAL POWER. When you choose to have the RECORDS SORTED in a PORTAL, how are the RECORDS in the ORIGINAL TABLE AFFECTED?
A
NOT AT ALL. It has no effect at all on the RECORDS in the ORIGINAL TABLE OCCURRENCE. You can even put another PORTAL on a different layout and set it to use a different SORT ORDER.
2
Q
- Normally, a PORTAL starts with the SAME RELATED RECORD. How do you change this?
A
Change the INITIAL ROW VALUE, and the PORTAL WILL SKIP SOME ROWS.
3
Q
- Can you put the SAME PORTAL on your layout more than ONCE?
A
YES, you can even give it DIFFERENT INITIAL ROWS.
4
Q
- If you make a PORTAL GROW VERTICALLY (WITH ANCHORS), how do you decide whether FileMaker adds MORE ROWS or JUST MAKES EACH ROW BIGGER?
A
If anything IN the portal is anchored on the BOTTOM, the PORTAL ROWS WILL GET BIGGER, otherwise, the rows stay the same height and more of them get added to the space.
