- p 344 PORTALS. In the PORTAL SET UP dialog box, how do you choose which table to show the RECORDS from?
“SHOW RELATED RECORDS FROM” pop up menu
- When you choose “SHOW RELATED RECORDS FROM,” FileMaker looks at:
a RELATED TABLE OCCURRENCE, and it ALWAYS sees it from the PERSPECTIVE (CONTEXT) OF THE CURRENT LAYOUT.
- If you’re working from the CUSTOMERS LAYOUT, and have a JOBS PORTAL, FileMaker looks at;
JOBS RELATED TO THE CUSTOMER. You could say that the CUSTOMERS TABLE is your current CONTEXT.
- What does the SORT PORTAL RECORDS in the PORTAL SET UP dialog box do?
allows you to sort the records by the field of your choice.
- “ALLOW DELETION OF PORTAL RECORDS.”
With this option turned on, you can delete records in the related table right from the current layout (CURRENT CONTEXT).
- “SHOW VERTICAL SCROLL BAR.”
Allows you to view all the related jobs, no matter how many exist.
- “RESET SCROLL BAR WHEN EXITING RECORD.”
The portal goes back to the first record when you click out or exit the portal.
- When you’ve made your choices in the PORTAL SET UP dialog box and click OK, its space is taken over by:
The ADD FIELDS TO PORTAL window.
- Choose your field, say, JOB NAME, and click MOVE. What happens?
FileMaker adds JOBS:: NAME to the included FIELDS list. Click OK. Your layout now has a PORTAL.
