Fertilisation to Trilaminar Embryo Flashcards
Fertilisation Steps (4)
- Sperm binds in a human specific interaction with Zona pellucida glycoprotein (ZP3 – receptor, other ZP glycoproteins 1-4)
- Acrosomal enzymes released from sperm head (makes way into egg)
- Egg and sperm plasma membrane fuse and sperm contents enter egg
- Sperm entry triggers - Meiosis II completion, Release of cortical granules by oocyte
Cleavage - First Cel Divisions
Zyogte undergoes cell division
8 cell stage Blastomere - totipotent (any cell)
Mosaicism - 2 or more cell lines, non-disjunction, trisomy 21
2 or more cell lines with different chromosome complements
Can occur via mitotic non-disjunction
Some cells with normal complement and some with trisomy - less prominent features
Compaction of Morula
Morula = 16+ blastomeres
Within zona pellucida
Begin to form cell junctions
Fluid enters through zona pellucida
Blastocyst
Day 4/5
Fluid moves into cavity
Trophoblast - outer layer, foetal part of placenta
Inner cell mass
Hatching - embryo hatch from zona pellucida
Implantation
Implantation
Day 6
Move along uterus to posterior or anterior uterus
Invade endometrium lining - trophoblasts
Corpus Leuteum
Endocrine organ
Important for pregnancy
Produces progesterone for maintaining lining
Day 7.5
Invade endometrial lining and implant properly
Active process by trophoblasts
Trophoblasts divide into Cyto- and Syncytiotrophoblasts (chorionic gonadotropin stimulates corpus luteum)
2 Layers - epiblast (dorsal) and hypoblast (ventral)
Day 9
Implantation complete
Vacuoles appear in syncytiotrophoblast and unit to form lacunae
ENlarged blood vessels in endometrial lining - form uteroplacental circulation
Two cavities formed –> Amniotic cavity & Primitive Yolk sac
Day 12
Establishment of Uteroplacental circulation
Maternal blood flows into lacunae to diffuse to embryoblast
Extraembryonic mesoderm develops and degenerates and gives rise to chorionic cavity
Day 13
Further development of chorionic cavity and presence of connecting stalk
Second wave of hypoblast cells migrate to definitive yolk sac
Implanted embryo
Uteroplacental circulation forms as syncytiotrophoblasts extend and contacts maternal blood supply
Amniotic cavity present
Chorionic cavity developed and encircles
Week 3 - Formation of Primitive Streak
Appears at midline at caudal end of epiblast –> body axes
Cranial end - pit and node
Know what direction cells are in now
Gastrulation
Movement of epiblast cells through primitive streak to form three germ layers
Body axes established
Hypoblast cells replaced by definitive endoderm
Back under themselves to form mesoderm and spread out
Epiblast - ectoderm
Fate of Ectoderm
Epidermis of Skin
Nervous system
