Fermentation(Flour and yeast) Flashcards
What will happen when flour and yeast are combined?
any type of flour with yeast will result in leavening.
how do yeasts obtain their energy?
they obtain their energy from a process called fermentation
What does Leavening mean?
Leavening is the rise of bread and flour and it’s caused by fermentation.
What does fermentation produce?
fermentation produces alcohol and carbon dioxide and energy
what is the meaning of Anaerobic and Aerobic?
Anaerobic: Without oxygen
Aerobic: With oxygen
Example of Fermentation
Yeast is a type of eukaryote. (Fungi)
Yeast and flour consume sugar. Then when yeast consumes sugar, they excrete and produce co2, and alcohol, so the dough puffs.
The presence of sugar and yeast is fermentation
Where does fermentation work?
Fermentation works in an anaerobic environment, in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells
