Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) Flashcards
1
Q
What is FAI?
A
-cam lesion
-pincer impingement
mixture of both
2
Q
what is a cam lesion
A
- -addition bone at the head and neck of femur
- 78% of impingement cases
- commonly seen on anteriosuperior aspect of femoral neck
3
Q
what is pincer impingement
A
- boney change in the aceatablum (hook)
- 42% impingement cases
4
Q
what are the causes of FAI?
A
- deformity due to over activity at growth plate between head and neck of femur during rapid growth in adolecents
- runs in the family (3 sibilings likely to have FAI)
- related to groin pain
5
Q
what are the symptoms of FAI?
A
- pain in groin or lateral hip
- common position of impingement is hip flexion with internal rotation and adduction
- decrease hip flexion
- decrease hip internal rotation
- pain on squatting, twisting, turning
- positive FADIR test
6
Q
what investigation would take place?
A
- X-Ray
- MRI
7
Q
what treatment would you give to FAI?
A
- avoid position of impingement
- increase hip flexion
- increase hip internal rotation
8
Q
what activity modification would you suggest?
A
- change position in team to decrease amount of changing direction
- reduce time in training and on field
9
Q
what is the impingement position
A
hip flexion, internal rotation and adduction
