Q

What are the advantages of patella tendon surgery

A
  • Length of the patella tendon is approx length of ACL
  • Patella tendon is as strong as injured ACL
  • bone to bone healing

  • Anterior knee pain
  • Alteration of quads function
  • Numbness lateral to inscision from cutting the saphenous nerv

all improve over time

15
Q

What are the disadvantages of hamstring tendon surgery

A
  • longer time needed for graft to become rigid
  • soft tissue to bone healing is slower
  • slight loss of hamstring strength after recovery

16
Q

what are the advantages of allograft surgery

A
  • shorter op time
  • small incision
  • no pain or scars on donor sight
  • less pain post op
17
Q

what are the disadvantages of allograft surgery

A
  • shortage of allografts
  • not as strong as patients own tissue
  • trasmission of disease (HIV, hepatitis)
  • delayed return to sport
18
Q

Re-injury rate

A
  • 3-6% graft failures
  • increase risk of other knee injuries
  • re-injury most likely 6-12 months post op
