Female Reproductive System Flashcards
1
Q
Gamete and Gonad of female reproductive system?
A
gamete = ovum, oocyte, egg
gonad = ovaries
2
Q
What are the ligaments that are supporting structures of the female reproductive system?
A
- Ovarian Ligament
- anchors ovary to uterus
- no vascular structures - Suspenary Ligament
- anchor ovary to lateral wall of pelvis
- NAVL
- Ovarian Artery & Vein
- Lt ovarian v. drain into Lt renal vein - Broad Ligament
- peritoneal fold over the Uterus
- NAVL pathway - Mesovarian
- suspends ovaries from uterine tube
- NAVL pathway
3
Q
What is the round ligament and where does it pass?
A
- A ligament similar to the spermatic cord.
- Attach from uterus to Labia Majora & passes through the inguinal canal
- why pregnant women have groin pain because pulls on round ligament
4
Q
Describe all the ovarian follicles
A
- Primordial Follicle
- born w/ all primordial follicles your going to have
- Primary Oocyte
- Follicular cells
(simple squamous cells)
–> Increase FSH
(small amt LH too)
- Primary Follicle
- triggered by FSH
- Primary Oocyte
- Granulosa Cells
(cubiodal cells w/ glandular function)
–> Estrogen
–> Progesterone
(after ovulation) - Secondary Follicle
- Primary Oocyte
- Granulosa cells produce more estrogen
- produce follicular fluid pockets - Graafian (Mature) Cell
- Secondary Oocyte
- Antrum of follicular fluid
- Estrogen reach HIGHEST level
5
Q
What happens on day 14 ?
A
Mature follicle ruptures & eject secondary Oocyte
-> corpus hemorrhagic
-> corpus luteum
- LH increase, progesterone high & estrogen low
-> corpus albican
- progesterone makes a neg feeback on LH qhich causes death or corpus luteum leaving a scar
