Female Reproduction Flashcards
What does FSH do?
Follicle stimulating hormone causes granulosa cells to secrete estrogens like estradiol and inhibin
What hormone causes follicle to mature?
Follicle stimulating hormone
Follicular stage.
Day 1-14 of cycle. Estrogen increases.
Endometrium is built.
Secondary sex characteristics in female.
Decreased muscle mass.
Stimulates bone growth.
Closes bone growth plate.
What does inhibin do?
Decreases secretion of anterior pituitary hormones FSH and LH. Like birth control.
What does LH do?
Leutinzing hormone. Causes corpus luteum to secrete progesterone from day 14-26.
Thickens uterine lining.
Thickens cervical mucus.
Prepares uterus for implantation of fertilized egg.
What has an inhibitory effect on hypothalamus and what does this cause?
Estrogen and progesterone. Reduces GnRH, FSH, and LH.
What leads to menses?
When progesterone drops in days 0-5.
What hormone has nothing to do with the egg and egg stays same size, and keeps increasing until Day 14 and ovulation?
FSH, follicle stimulating hormone
What hormone is the feel good hormone, the pregnancy hormone?
Progesterone
What makes progesterone in pregnant women?
Placenta
Explain how LH and FSH are released?
Hypothalamus releases GnRH which stimulates anterior pituitary to release LH and FSH
What causes uterine lining to grow?
Estradiol.
What is the cell type that produces inhibin?
Granulosa cells.
