Q

Feline Panleukaemia Virus (FPV)

  • CS (4)
  • FIE CS (6)
  • DDX (4)
  • Dx (5)
  • Tx (5)
A
  • parvovirus
  • CS : foetus 21 days: cerebellar hypoplasia, young kittens: sudden death, older kittens/cats: intestinal disease (FIE) & sever panleukopenia
  • FIE CS : fever, inappetence, anorexia, vomiting, severe watery diarrhoea, secondary bacterial infections (determines severity of disease)
  • DDx: intussuception, FB, acute bacterial peritonitis, poisoning
  • Dx: CS, history, haematology, virus isolation (faeces/oropharyngeal swab–>PCR), serology
  • Tx: nursing, IVFT, antiemetics, IV ABs, isolation

Q

FIP

-viral properties (5)

A
  • protein spikes in nucleus
  • difficult to grow in lab
  • mild diarrhoea 2-3 days
  • virus excreted weeks before development of CS

Q

Diseases of FIP (2 + 1/4)

A
  • Enteric disease (FCoV): mild enteritis
  • Systemic diseases (FIP): immune mediated vasculitits, complement fixation, pyogranuloma formation, vascular damage –> protein leakage

Q

FIP

  • pathogenesis (4)
  • Dx (6)
  • CS of each type of FIP (3/4)
A
  • ingestion –> replication in tonsils/intestinal epithelium –> replication in lymphoid tissues –> replication in other tissues
  • DX: immunohistopathology of biopsy specimen, CS, history, fluid analysis, systemic inflammation, presence of virus
  • Wet: effusive lesion (modified transudates): peritoneal (ascites)/ pleural (dyspnoea)
  • Dry: granulomatous lesions, neurological signs (ataxia/paresis/nystagmus), liver and kidney dysfunction, occular disease (iritis/retinitis)

-serology
Tx

A
  • hyperglobinaemia, lymphopenia, neutrophilia, anaemia
