Feedback Flashcards
What are the 8 types of feedback?
Positive Negative Extrinsic Intrinsic Terminal Concurrent Knowledge of performance Knowledge of results
Which types of feedback are extrinsic?
Positive Negative (can be intrinsic) Extrinsic Terminal Concurrent (can be intrinsic) Knowledge of result (can be intrinsic)
Which types of feedback are intrinsic?
Negative (can be extrinsic) Intrinsic Concurrent (Can be extrinsic) Knowledge of performance Knowledge of results (Can be extrinsic)
What is positive feedback?
Given extrinsically by a coach/teacher in the form of praise
Who is positive feedback best for?
Cognitive/associative as it motivates them to repeat correct behaviour. Strengthens S-R bond, reinforcing learning,
What is negative feedback?
When the movement is incorrect a coach or the performer can criticise it.
Who is negative feedback best for?
Autonomous performers won’t become demotivated by it and will want to know how to improve.
What is extrinsic feedback?
AKA augmented feedback
Visual/auditory senses receive information from external sources.
Who is extrinsic feedback best for?
Cognitive/associative as they are developing mental image.
Not for autonomous as they want to develop a kinaesthetic sense.
What is intrinsic feedback?
This is in the form of sensory feedback via internal proprioceptors and kinaesthesis.
Who is intrinsic feedback best for?
Autonomous performers as they have a kinaesthetic sense and are not reliant on external feedback. They use it to aid fluency/timing.
What is terminal feedback?
Information received after the skill has been completed.
Who is terminal feedback best for?
All performers as it allows them to reflect on their performance and then make changes next time they attempt the skill.
What is concurrent feedback?
Information is received during the skill
Who is concurrent feedback best for?
Autonomous performers as they have spare attentional capacity so can take in extra information during the skill.
