What is family diversity?
Not having one dominant family type as modern household arrangements are far too complicated
What is the extended family?
All kin including and beyond the nuclear family
What is the classic extended family?
Sharing the same household or live close by
What is the modified extended family?
They live far apart but keep in touch
What is the beanpole family?
Long and thin and multi generational family with fewer children but their living together
What is a cohabiting family?
A couple who live together but are not married
What is the reconstituted family?
One or both partners have previously married with children from previous relationships
What is a lone parent family?
Single parent with dependent children through choice or relationship breakdown
What is a symmetrical family?
Authority and household tasks shared equally
What is it called when couples have a household each but maintain a close partnership?
Living apart together
What is the nuclear family?
Just the parents and children, living together in one household. Two generational

Having one partner at a time
What is a serial monogamy?
A series of relationships consisting of one partner at a time
What is polygamy?
Having more than one partner at the same time
