Factors That Influence Learning Flashcards
What is perceptual learning?
Occurs when specks of our perception changes as a function of experience
What is implicit learning?
Occurs when we acquire information without intent that we cannot easily express
What is implicit memory?
Changes in behavior that reveal the influence of past experiences without intending to use it
What is non-associative learning?
Occurs when a single repeated exposure leads to a change in behavior
What is habituation?
When the response to a stimulus decreases with exposure
What is sensitization?
When the response to a stimulus decreases with exposure
What is working memory?
The form of memory we use to hold onto information temporarily, usually for the purposes of manipulation
What is chunking?
The process of grouping information together using our knowledge
What is encoding?
The pact of putting information into memory
What is incidental learning?
Any type of learning that happens without the intention to learn
What is intentional learning?
Any type of learning that happens when motivated by intention
What is metacognition?
Describes the knowledge and skills people have in monitoring and controlling their own learning and memory
What is transfer-appropriate-processing?
States that memory performance is superior when a test taps the same cognitive processes as the original encoding activity
What is explicit learning?
Traditional method
What is specific anxiety?
Hurts working memory
