F2 - SEM2 - Force and motion - 11.5 Action and reaction Flashcards
Explain why you feel pain when you hit a wall
Forces always occur in pairs
When you exert a force on the wall, the wall also exerts a force on you
How do we call the paired forces?
Action and reaction
*** study the practical on P.188 - 191
Explain what is action and reaction
Force always occur in pair
When object A exert a force on object B (action), object B exert a force of equal size on object A in opposite direction (reaction)
How to draw action and reaction?
The arrows of action and reaction should be the same length and in opposite direction.
Label each arrow clearly
Give examples of action-and-reaction pairs
When you exert a force on the wall of swimming pool, the wall exerts a force of equal size on you in opposite direction - This force pushes you away from the wall
When you jumps you exert a downward force on the ground, the ground exerts an upward force of equal size on you - the force push you into the air
When the ballon of ballon rocket deflates and pushes the air to the right, the air exerts a reaction force on the balloon to the left, the ballon moves towards left.
