F2 - SEM2 - Force and motion - 11.2 Forces Flashcards
How to represent a force in a diagram?
use arrow to represent a force in the diagram
the tail of the arrow at the point where the force is applied
the direction of the arrow represent the direction of the force
the size/length of the arrow show the size of the force
What happen when we apply a force to an object?
the motion of the object is changed
change the speed of the object - from rest to move, speed up, slow down, and stop
change the direction of the object
the shape of the object can be changed - E.g. rubberband
What is contact force and non-contact force
contact force - apply force through direct contact only
non-contact force - apply force without direct contact
What is function of spring balance?
measure the size of a force
What is the unit of force?
newton (N)
What is another tools to measure the size of a force?
Force sensor
In which way two forces are balanced?
two forces of the same size act on an object in opposite direction
What happen if the forces acting on an object are balance?
the speed and moving direction of the object does not change
An object is at rest -> stay at rest
An object is moving -> move in uniform motion
