F2 - SEM1 - Living things and air - 7.2 Flashcards
Plants make their own food by ____?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Plants make their own food by photosynthesis
7.2 Photosynthesis
____ is converted to ____ in food in the Photosynthesis
7.2 Photosynthesis
Light energy is converted to chemical energy in food in the Photosynthesis
7.2 Photosynthesis
Word equation of photosynthesis?
7.2 Photosynthesis
carbon dioxide+water —- light energy, chlorophyll —-> food (glucose) + oxygen
7.2 Photosynthesis
Chemical equation of photosynthesis?
7.2 Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O ——–> C6H12O6 + 6O2
7.2 Photosynthesis
What are the necessary factors for photosynthesis?
7.2 Photosynthesis
- Light
- Chlorophyll
- Carbon dioxide
- Water
7.2 Photosynthesis
Who are the producers and consumers in most food chains?
7.2 Photosynthesis
- Plants are the producers
- Animals are the consumers
7.2 Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis provides ________ and supplies ________ to other living things.
7.2 Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis provides a source of energy and supplies oxygen to other living things.
7.2 Photosynthesis
The green leaf cells contain a green pigment called ____ inside ____
7.2 Photosynthesis
The green leaf cells contain a green pigment called chlorophyll inside chloroplasts
7.2 Photosynthesis
What is the by-product of photosynthesis?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Oxygen
7.2 Photosynthesis
How to test for starch?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Turn iodine solution from brown to blue black
7.2 Photosynthesis
____ produced in plants during photosynthesis can be used immediately or stored as ____ for later user
7.2 Photosynthesis
Glucose produced in plants during photosynthesis can be used immediately or stored as Starch for later user
7.2 Photosynthesis
Steps of testing for starch in a green leaf and their purposes
7.2 Photosynthesis
- Boil the leaf in water - Destroy the cell membranes of the leaf cells. Allows alcohol and iodine solution to get into the cells.
- Put the leaf into hot alcohol - Remove chlorophyll from the leaf cellls so that the colour change can be observed
- Wash the leaf in hot water - Remove the remaining alcohol and make the leaf soft
- Add iodine solution to the leaf - Test for starch
7.2 Photosynthesis
What is the use of adding sodium hydrogencarbonate to the water?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Sodium hydrogencarbonate provides the water plants with carbon dioxide for carrying out photosynthesis
7.2 Photosynthesis
What is destarching?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Put the plants in the dark for at least 24 hours to remove all starch in the leaves
7.2 Photosynthesis
What is control set-up?
7.2 Photosynthesis
Control-setup is identical to the Experimental set-up except that the factor under investigation is absent
7.2 Photosynthesis
