Explaining Behaviour using Different Themes Flashcards
Intros for Y1 Topics
Social - SIT + RCT both describe roles of groups in prejudice, key difference is that SIT says it existence of the groups, RCT says its competition between them
Cognitive - MSM + WMM. Both describe how memories encoded
Biological - Evolutionary aggression vs Amygdala or hormones
Learning - Behaviours - SLT vs Operant conditioning vs Classical conditioning. Flooding v SD for phobias
Explaining Behaviour using Different Themes AO1
We must consider different types of psychological explanations for behaviour. Its an issue as a cognitive explanation will explain behaviour by how our brain functions, structures and our thinking, whereas a learning explanation for the behaviour would consider how the factors in our environment affect how we act
Examples for each Y1 Topic
Sherif (1954/61) - Prejudice as competition in field experiments, SIT as existence in lab studies.
Baddeley (1966b) - Acoustic + Semantic how LTM encoded
Raine (1997) - Brain structure dysfunction as explanation for aggression. Corpus Callosum & left amygdala in NGRI
Watson & Rayner (1928) - Human phobias could have been conditioned initially thus can be unlearnt
