Issues arise because of individual differences - the extent to which people differ from each other is important in psychology. Men and women certainly vary, and people from different cultures behave in different ways. This is an issue as it means some studies or theories lack generalizability. Do many assume that we are all the same, and if so, results can drastically differ
Examples for Culture & Gender
Social - Only looked at American boys. Summer camps less used in other cultures. Poor generalizability. Better explanation of cultural difference as Shana & Yaya (1978) did milgrams in Jordan and 60% obedience but no moral strain.
Cognitive - Culture doesn’t affect memory, but Bartlett showed it affects recall through schemas. Seb Hernandez-Gil shows digit span does vary w culture however
Biological - No difference in brain structure. Testosterone shows difference in male and female testosterone
Learning - Little Albert being a boy not thought to affect likelihood of fear etc. . But Bandura showed difference in boys aggression v girls, 26% to 5%, due to expectations
