Explain the three stages of Motor Learning and apply them to a sport or skill of your choice. Flashcards
1
Q
Cognitive
A
- Beginners gain some basic understanding of how to perform a task
- For example when a child is learning soccer, some simple cognitive problems must be addressed. Like, avoid touching the ball with your hands
2
Q
Associative
A
- Learners begin to refine their skills
- Develop awareness of the mistakes they’re making
- Leads to fewer, and less pronounced, errors.
- For example, better passing and scoring skills
3
Q
Autonomous
A
- Almost automatic
- Able to just do that activity, while concentrating on highly refined aspect of the skill
- Body and mind work together to allow this progression and skilled development to occur
- Reached by professional sports players and other highly trained individuals, whose movements seem almost seamless in their execution
