Differentiate between the three different types of ages in terms of growth and development. Flashcards
1
Q
Chronological Age
A
Age measured in years, months, and days; this is, the standard set of the term “age”.
2
Q
Skeletal age
A
- Skeletal age is measured by how bones grow and harden.
- X-rays of the hand and wrist are used to check this.
- Skeletal age might not match a person’s actual age.
- Differences can be caused by:
1. Diet
2. Illness
3. Injuries - Knowing skeletal age helps us understand how the body develops.
3
Q
Developmental age
A
- Developmental age looks at physical, mental, social, and emotional growth.
- It shows how well someone can do certain tasks.
- Example: “He’s seven but serves like a teenager” compares actual age to developmental age.
- This highlights the difference between chronological age and developmental age.
