Experimental Designs Flashcards
Independent Measures: Between
Different participants are used in each condition of the IV; This means that each condition of the experiment includes a different group of participants; Done by random allocation to ensure each participant has an equal chance of being assigned to one group or the other
Repeated Measures: Within
Same participants take part in each condition of the IV
Counterbalancing- Within Groups Design
Procedure to minimize threats from order effects and time-related factors by changing the order in which treatment conditions are administered from one participant to another so that treatment conditions are matched with respect to time; Goal is to use every possible order of treatments with an equal number of individuals participating in the sequence
Matched pairs
Each condition uses different participants. but they are matched in terms of important characteristics; One member of each matched pair must be randomly assigned to the experimental group and the other to the control group
